Gemini Arrives in Chrome

Google has begun rolling out Gemini in Chrome to enhance browsing with powerful AI integration. Initially available to US users on Windows and macOS with Chrome set to English, the feature was once limited to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers but is now accessible to a wider audience. Mobile Chrome users in the US are also receiving the update.

Smarter Browsing With AI

Users can activate Gemini by clicking the new Gemini logo in the top right corner of Chrome. Once enabled, Gemini can compare and summarise content across multiple tabs, provide quick answers to webpage queries, and recall information from past browsing sessions without users manually searching through their history.

Gemini also integrates data from Google apps like YouTube, Calendar, and Maps, presenting relevant details in one place without leaving the current tab. Additionally, AI-powered search is being added to Chrome’s Omnibox, allowing users to switch into AI Mode directly from the address bar.

Agentic Capabilities Coming Soon

In the coming months, Gemini in Chrome will gain agentic skills, meaning it can complete tasks on a user’s behalf. Examples include booking appointments or ordering groceries, effectively turning Chrome into a proactive personal assistant.

Enhanced Safety and Privacy Tools

Google is pairing Gemini’s intelligence with new safety features. Enhanced Protection mode, powered by Gemini Nano, will help block scam websites, fake virus alerts, and fraudulent giveaways. Chrome will also introduce less intrusive permission prompts, and Gemini will soon act as a password agent, letting users update credentials with a single click on supported sites like Coursera, Spotify, Duolingo, and H&M.

Google’s Push Into AI Browsers

With Gemini in Chrome, Google steps directly into the AI browser race, competing with platforms like Perplexity’s recently launched Comet Browser. By combining everyday browsing with AI automation and stronger safety protections, Chrome aims to redefine how users interact with the web.
