OpenAI has unveiled Pulse, a fresh feature within ChatGPT designed to deliver highly personalised daily updates. Available exclusively to Pro subscribers, Pulse was introduced by CEO Sam Altman, who hailed it as his favourite feature of ChatGPT to date.

Sam Altman’s Vision for Pulse

Sam Altman shared his excitement about the launch, calling Pulse a major step towards treating ChatGPT like a super competent personal assistant. He explained that Pulse curates tailored updates overnight, presenting users with actionable insights each morning. From follow ups on topics discussed in chats to reminders for long term goals, Pulse adapts as it learns more about each user’s interests and needs.

How Pulse Works

Pulse runs quietly in the background, analysing chat history, memory and preferences before generating visual cards filled with personalised suggestions. These could be as simple as dinner recommendations or as strategic as progress steps for fitness or professional plans. Users can also guide Pulse by tapping “curate” to request specific updates, such as event roundups or sports highlights. Feedback options make it easy to refine or dismiss results to improve accuracy.

Integrations with Gmail and Calendar

For those who want deeper support, Pulse offers optional integrations with Gmail and Google Calendar. With this access, ChatGPT can create meeting agendas, recommend birthday gifts, or suggest dining options for upcoming trips. Importantly, these integrations are turned off by default and can be managed easily through settings, giving users full control of their data.

Safety and Limitations

OpenAI confirmed that every Pulse update passes through safety checks to avoid harmful or policy violating content. While the feature is still new and may sometimes generate less relevant suggestions, OpenAI emphasises that user feedback will shape its refinement. Updates appear only for one day unless users choose to save or expand them, ensuring the experience remains focused and timely.

Towards a Proactive Future for AI

Pulse signals OpenAI’s vision of evolving ChatGPT from a reactive assistant into a proactive partner that can plan, research and suggest actions in real time. Future updates may bring more app connections and smarter timing, such as reminders before important meetings or context based recommendations.

“Pulse is just the beginning,” OpenAI said. “ChatGPT will grow into something that not only responds to your questions but quietly accelerates the ideas and work that matter most to you.”
