A Smarter Way to Track Deliveries

Google is making online shopping easier to manage by introducing a dedicated Purchases tab in Gmail. This new feature allows users to view all their purchase-related emails in one place, including past orders and upcoming shipments. Until now, Gmail only highlighted packages arriving within 24 hours at the top of the inbox, but the new tab goes further by providing a unified view of everything you have ordered.

The update builds on Gmail’s package-tracking feature first introduced in 2022, which let users see delivery details directly from their inbox instead of navigating to carrier websites. With online shopping and holiday demand rising, this streamlined approach ensures users can stay on top of their deliveries without the usual hassle.

Why It Matters During Holidays

Google highlighted that the new tab will be especially useful during the holiday season. PwC’s 2025 holiday outlook predicts that nearly 40 percent of planned gift spending will occur between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday. With a surge of orders during that period, the Purchases tab will help users keep track of shipments more efficiently, ensuring no gifts or essentials are missed in the holiday rush.

Global Rollout and Availability

The Purchases tab is rolling out globally starting today on both mobile and web platforms for users with personal Google accounts. This means millions of Gmail users will soon be able to see all of their purchases in a single, organized view, regardless of the device they use.

Smarter Promotions Management

In addition to the Purchases tab, Gmail is also upgrading how it handles promotional emails. The Promotions category will soon allow users to sort by “most relevant” messages. This will make it easier to spot offers from brands you care about, while Gmail will also nudge users about timely deals. The new promotions update is expected to begin rolling out in the coming weeks to personal account holders on mobile.

Building on Subscription Management

These new features follow Gmail’s recent improvements in subscription management. Earlier this year, Google introduced a tool that lets users view all their subscription emails in one place and easily unsubscribe from services they no longer want. Together with the new Purchases tab, these updates show Google’s focus on helping users declutter their inboxes while making shopping and deals easier to manage.

Gmail’s Purchases tab represents another step in Google’s effort to make the inbox more intelligent, personalized, and useful for everyday life. By consolidating purchases, promotions, and subscriptions, Gmail is positioning itself as not just an email platform but also a hub for managing digital shopping experiences.
