The wait for Apple’s next big release might finally be coming to an end. If new reports are to be believed, the iPhone 17 lineup will officially be unveiled on September 9, marking the tech giant’s much-anticipated return to the global stage with a host of hardware upgrades. From a new “Air” model to faster chips and larger screens, this year’s iPhone refresh could be one of the most comprehensive in recent memory.
According to a German tech publication citing mobile service providers, Apple will host its launch event in the second week of September, staying true to its long-standing release tradition. If accurate, pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series will begin on September 12, followed by official sales on September 19. These dates closely align with previous events such as last year’s iPhone 16 debut on September 9 and the iPhone 15 launch on September 12 in 2023.
This year’s iPhone 17 series is expected to include four models. Alongside the regular iPhone 17, users can expect the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max. The most intriguing addition is the iPhone 17 Air, which is reported to feature a remarkably slim battery design and a larger 6.5-inch display, positioning it between the standard and Pro models in terms of size and likely price.
Internally, Apple seems to be making some serious upgrades. The standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will reportedly run on the new A19 chip, while the Pro and Pro Max models will pack a more advanced A19 Pro processor, promising a boost in speed, graphics, and efficiency. This separation between the base and Pro chipsets continues Apple's strategy of segmenting performance tiers.
In terms of display sizes, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are expected to come with 6.3-inch screens, while the iPhone 17 Air will stretch to 6.5 inches. The Pro Max variant is said to feature a large 6.9-inch panel, ideal for users who prioritize screen real estate.
Materials are also getting a rethink. The iPhone 17, 17 Air, and 17 Pro will likely feature aluminium frames, keeping the devices lightweight and durable. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to continue Apple’s move toward a premium titanium build, reinforcing its status as the ultimate flagship.
With the growing demand for Apple’s audio accessories, the September event could also see the introduction of the third-generation AirPods Pro alongside the new iPhones. Additionally, new Apple Watch models are likely to be unveiled at the same event.
Pricing may see a slight bump this year. While the base iPhone 17 is expected to retain a similar price tag to its predecessor, other models in the series are tipped to receive a price hike of around fifty dollars, or roughly four thousand rupees in India.
As excitement builds ahead of Apple’s big day, it’s clear that the iPhone 17 series is more than just another update. With refreshed designs, new processors, expanded display sizes, and a whole new Air model in the mix, Apple looks set to give users plenty of reasons to upgrade.
